This past Thursday the Dons Sand Volleyball team captured the Open Division Championship, with a 3-2 win over rival and top seeded Torrey Pines High School. The Dons finished with a perfect 11-0 match record and went 41-4 in pairs matchups throughout the whole season. They received continued high level play from
Charles Sutton '24 and
John Hanson '24 in the championship match as they won their match in straight sets.
In the title clinching match with the two teams tied at 2 match wins apiece, the #3's pair of
Thomas Branson '25 and
Brady Edwards '24 were in a back and forth battle with Torrey. At one point they were down 14-12 in the third set, before rallying back to even things at 15 all. Tommy had a big hit that put the pair up one and Brady immediately followed with an awesome line shot for the win at 17-15. The Dons secured the Open Championship with that final pairs victory.Â
