The following is article from The San Diego Union-Tribune, "Dons take Open Division crown."
Cathedral Catholic sophomore
Kenly Braylen Axline and the Dons did it again.
Axline scored two of his three goals to trigger an opening second-half surge as the defending CIF San Diego Section Open Division champions earned an encore title and their third in four years with a 13-9 triumph over La Jolla.
"This is phenomenal," said Axline, a second-year starter. "You can't really make this up. It's surreal."
Top-seeded Cathedral (24-6) erupted with five unanswered goals in the first four minutes of the second half to pull away to a 11-4 lead.
"Throughout the season, the third quarter was our weakest point," Axline said. "Going into this game, we had to be ready for that and bring our all."
Third-seeded La Jolla (22-8) was denied in its second final in three years.
In the first quarter,
Jett Taylor scored two of his three goals in the final minute to give Cathedral a 4-2 advantage.
The Dons won all three meetings against City Western League rival this season. Overall, they outscored their three playoff foes 42-18.
