Cathedral Catholic alumnus Shea Fitzgerald '23 is making waves in the college basketball world.

Now a sophomore guard at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY, Fitzgerald has turned in a record-breaking start to his collegiate career, cementing himself as one of the top NCAA Division III players in the country. This past season, he was named the 2024-25 Liberty League Player of the Year, earned All-Region honors, and became Vassar's first-ever NCAA Division III All-American, landing a spot on the NABC Third Team.

Fitzgerald averaged 19.7 points per game, leading both his team and the conference. He also paced the Brewers in assists (75) and minutes played (31.7 mpg). He topped the 20-point mark in 12 games, including two standout performances where he scored a career-high 34 points, once against Middlebury and again against Cortland.

His accomplishments this season included:

Fitzgerald helped lead Vassar to a 16-10 overall record and a 12-4 conference mark, earning the program a #3 seed in the Liberty League Championship and setting a new school record for conference wins in a single season.

His stellar sophomore campaign was built upon a strong freshman year, during which he started all 25 games and led the team in points, three-pointers, and steals. He was a finalist for Vassar's Rookie of the Year, named All-Liberty League Honorable Mention, and twice honored as Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

In just two years, Fitzgerald has already rewritten the Vassar record books. He now owns the third-highest single-season scoring average and second-best single-season free throw percentage in program history.

From leading the Dons to dominating in the Liberty League, Shea Fitzgerald is a stud. Once a Don, always a Don.
