The Cathedral Catholic inline hockey team continued its impressive start to the season, moving to a perfect 4-0 with a commanding 9-2 victory over the composite San Diego Inline team on Wednesday night.
Senior Nate Clark made his season debut after finishing his Midget AAA ice hockey season in Los Angeles and quickly made an impact. Clark scored less than three minutes into the game, giving the Dons an early boost. Cathedral held a narrow 2-1 lead after the first period before pulling away with a dominant second period that broke the game open.
Freshman Eddie Hentzen spearheaded the offense with a stellar performance, earning his first three-goal hat trick of the season. The Dons demonstrated their depth by getting contributions from across the lineup. Also finding the back of the net were senior
Madeline Brown and her brother, sophomore
David Brown, along with senior
Brady Nelson, junior
Luke Ring, sophomore
Kellan Morneau, and junior
Vison Ha.
In goal, freshman Conner Bray and junior
Jackson Mann shared duties and both strong between the pipes, each allowing just one goal in the win.
Several Dons players will soon represent San Diego on a national stage. Clark, Ha, Bray, and
Vigo Garcia will travel to Minnesota later this month to compete in the High School National Championship ice hockey tournament with the San Diego Central Jets. Cathedral Catholic has a long-standing tradition of developing ice hockey talent that feeds into this powerhouse program in the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League, which is affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Dons will look to keep their undefeated streak alive in their next matchup against Classical Academy on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:45 p.m. at Kit Carson Park.
