The Cathedral Catholic Dons girls basketball team has opened the season in dominant fashion, starting 3-0 with impressive victories over Bakersfield Christian, St. Joseph Academy, and Murrieta Mesa. With a combination of standout individual performances and stifling defense, the Dons have emerged as a formidable force early in the season.
The season tipped off at the Pacifica Christian Showcase, where the Dons secured a decisive 53-39 win over Bakersfield Christian.
Maddie Moeller led the charge with her dynamic play, and her double double of 24 points and 18 rebounds.
The Dons then turned their attention to the RBV Tournament, where they cruised to a 54-26 victory over St. Joseph Academy. The defense was on full display, racking up an impressive 21 steals in the game and holding their opponent to just 26 points and forcing 28 total turnovers.
Mckinley Hanlon added a spark on both ends of the court, contributing to the team's strong showing.
In their most recent matchup, Cathedral Catholic delivered another dominant performance, defeating Murrieta Mesa 52-26. Once again, the Dons' defense proved relentless, and Moeller continued her torrid start to the season dropping 16 points with Hanlon adding 18!
Through three games, Moeller is averaging an impressive 22 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists per game, while shooting 50% from beyond the arc (6-for-12). Hanlon has been a key contributor as well, averaging 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game.
Defensively, the Dons have been nearly impenetrable, allowing just 30.3 points per game and averaging 14.3 steals per contest. Their ability to generate turnovers has been pivotal, with the 21-steal effort against St. Joseph Academy exemplifying their intensity on that end of the floor.
With their strong start, Cathedral Catholic has advanced to the Gold Bracket in the RBV Tournament. They are set to take on Fallbrook tonight at 7:30 p.m. as they look to keep their perfect record intact and solidify their status as a team to watch this season.
Stay tuned for updates as the Dons aim to continue their winning streak!
