The Cathedral Catholic baseball community gathered last Friday to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: Coaches Gary Remiker and Rob Reiter achieved their 500th career win with an impressive 11-4 victory over Patrick Henry. The win, fueled by a decisive 7-run third inning, was a sweet moment for the Dons, who avenged a close 2-1 loss to Patrick Henry just days earlier.
Beyond the significance of the 500th win, this game showcased the strong leadership and coaching skills of Remiker and Reiter, who have been with Cathedral Catholic for over 20 years as both educators and coaches. Remiker, a math teacher, and Reiter, a social studies teacher, have not only guided the Dons baseball program to success on the field but have also played key roles in shaping the lives of their players.
Owen Smyth's performance on the mound set the tone for the game, striking out seven batters over five innings while allowing only two earned runs and one unearned run off five hits. His consistency has been a cornerstone for the Dons, with Smyth not giving up more than two walks in his last four consecutive pitching appearances.
