The Cathedral Catholic Dons continued their strong start to the season on Tuesday with a 6-2 win over the San Marcos Knights, improving to 3-0 on the year. The Dons have been sharp on both sides of the ball early in the season, batting .317 as a team with 26 hits and four home runs, while the pitching staff has posted an impressive 2.00 ERA and limited opponents to a .200 on-base percentage.
San Marcos jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning when Maddox Ponsford singled down the right field line and Max Snakenborg followed with an RBI triple to give the visitors a 2–0 advantage. Cathedral Catholic quickly settled in and gradually chipped away before taking control in the bottom of the fifth inning. A San Marcos error helped ignite the rally before catcher
Evan DePodesta delivered a clutch single down the left field line and
Joshua Priest added a sacrifice fly, each driving in runs to put the Dons ahead.
DePodesta led the offensive from the nine spot in the lineup, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Will Blanton made another key contribution, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while
Alex Harrington showed speed on the bases with a stolen base. Defensively, the Dons were sharp, turning two double plays to maintain momentum.
On the mound, Shoei Darvish earned the start and delivered a solid outing, allowing four hits and two runs across four innings while striking out three and walking two. The bullpen continued Cathedral Catholic's early-season success, with
Kaden Kuhn and Cody Reynolds each throwing scoreless relief innings to secure the win.
The Dons will look to keep their undefeated start going when they travel to face La Costa Canyon Mavericks on Thursday.
