The Cathedral Catholic girls volleyball team completed a historic season, finishing ranked 2nd in the nation, winning the California Open Division State Championship, and claiming the San Diego Open Division title. The Dons, who posted an incredible 46-3 record, earned numerous postseason accolades, recognizing the remarkable talent and hard work that defined their 2024 campaign.
Yale commit Mae Kordas headlined the postseason awards, earning MaxPreps California Player of the Year honors after an electrifying season. The 6'3" hitter was unstoppable, leading the Dons with 451 kills (3.8 per set). During the state tournament, Kordas tallied 71 kills with only 14 errors on 145 attempts, highlighted by an 18-kill performance in the finals against Archbishop Mitty. Her dominance propelled Cathedral Catholic to its second Open Division state title in three seasons.
Kordas also earned a spot on the prestigious MaxPreps First Team All-America roster, marking her third consecutive All-America recognition. Alongside her, senior libero Maya Evens received First Team honors. Evens showcased exceptional all-around skills, tallying 482 digs, 470 serve receptions, and 154 assists while anchoring the Dons' defense throughout their championship run.
Sophia Johnson, a junior opposite hitter, was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-America Team after recording 285 kills and 62 blocks. Johnson's contributions were pivotal during Cathedral Catholic's playoff run, as she registered 32 kills over four matches, solidifying her role as a powerful offensive threat.
Sophomore setter Kale'a Lee earned recognition on the MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team after a breakout season. Lee distributed 794 assists (6.4 per set) and added 296 digs and 44 aces, showcasing her versatility and composure. Her ability to feed hitters like Kordas was instrumental in the Dons' success.
