Cathedral Catholic High School is proud to announce that Mae Kordas '25 has been named the 2024-25 Gatorade California Volleyball Player of the Year. This prestigious award, now in its 40th year, recognizes Kordas as the top high school volleyball player in California, celebrating her excellence both on and off the court.

Kordas, a 6-foot-3 standout middle, outside, and right-side hitter, played an instrumental role in leading the Dons to a 46-3 record, a San Diego Section Division 1 postseason title, and an Open Division state championship this past season. She amassed an impressive 469 kills, 118 blocks, and 108 digs, capping the year with an 18-kill, seven-dig, five-block performance in the Dons' 3-0 victory over Archbishop Mitty High School in the Open Division state final.

Off the court, Kordas exemplifies the values of leadership and service. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, she volunteers with Feeding San Diego, contributes to Cathedral Catholic's campus ministry, and coaches youth volleyball players. She has also excelled in the classroom, maintaining a weighted 4.29 GPA.

Kordas' coach, Nick Pabarcus of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, praised her versatility and selflessness: "Mae is extraordinary. Routinely, she would play out of position and dominate in every role. She has a selfless approach, and when pressed, she answered with top-tier athleticism and amazing court sense."

As part of this honor, Kordas also has the opportunity to direct a grant from Gatorade to a social impact organization of her choice, continuing the program's legacy of giving back to the community.

Kordas joins an elite group of past Cathedral Catholic honorees, including Julia Blyashov (2022-23), and is among the distinguished alumni of the Gatorade Player of the Year program, which includes legends like April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings.

Mae Kordas will continue her volleyball career at Yale University, where she is verbally committed to playing next fall. Cathedral Catholic congratulates Mae on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to seeing her continued success!
