The Cathedral Catholic cross country program continued its impressive season with strong performances across all levels at the Western League Cluster Meet on Thursday, October 16th, highlighted by the girls varsity team's first-place finish and standout performances from both squads. Racing on the 3.1-mile course, the Dons demonstrated their skill, with several runners achieving personal bests and both teams positioning themselves firmly for the upcoming championship season.
Girls Varsity – 1st Place Team Finish (34 points)
The Cathedral Catholic girls varsity team secured the top position in a competitive Western League field, finishing ahead of Scripps Ranch with 50 points.
Junior
Calliandra Schulteis '27 continued her excellent season with a second-place overall finish and a personal best of 18:58.70. Fellow junior
Kristine Bickler '27 placed fourth with a time of 19:22.60, while junior
Grace Keefe '27Â finished sixth at 19:38.00, and junior
Eva Smith '27Â ran a personal best of 19:41.20 to claim seventh.
Senior
Liesel Sellerberg '26 finished 15th at 20:11.70, sophomore
Phoebe Brink '28Â placed 18th with a 20:34.30, and senior
Ava Barrientos '26Â finished 20th at 20:45.10, completing a strong team effort that highlighted both top-tier performance and team depth.
Boys Varsity – 2nd Place Team Finish (47 points)
The boys' varsity team finished in a strong second place, just eight points behind Scripps Ranch.
Senior
Nathan Wilber '26 led with a first-place finish in 15:45.00, setting a personal record on the 3.1-mile course. The Dons' pack stayed close behind, with senior
Andrew Martinez '26 (9th, 16:36.00), junior
Conner Ransom '27Â (11th, 16:40.40, PR), junior
Aiden Angeles '27Â (12th, 16:48.10), and senior
Teddy Lang '26Â (14th, 16:49.80) rounding out the scoring five.
Sophomore
Caleb Reid '28 (15th, 16:51.20) and junior
Zachary Albers '27Â (19th, 17:05.00) also delivered strong races, making Cathedral one of the most balanced varsity lineups in the league.
Girls Junior Varsity – 1st Place Team Finish (19 points)
The girls' JV team completed the sweep for Cathedral, taking first place with an impressive team total of just 19 points.
Lily Gonzales led from the start to win the race in 17:07.00, followed by
Samantha Chaconas (2nd, 17:14.70) and
Brigit Fairbanks (3rd, 17:39.40), giving the Dons a 1-2-3 finish.
Sienna Struyck (6th, 18:08.30) and
Emma Sandberg (7th, 18:30.90) rounded out the top five, while
Olivia Lewis (11th, 18:46.70) and
Lilu Ramirez (12th, 18:51.80) provided great depth for the JV squad.
