It was another standout weekend on the water for Cathedral Catholic Sailing, as the Dons continued to make their mark in both local and regional competitions.
At the PCISA Single-Handed District Championship (Sept. 27-28),
Owen Fretwell '26 successfully defended his title, winning the event for the second consecutive year. With the victory, Owen qualifies for High School Nationals, where he'll compete against the nation's top sailors on Nov. 1–2 at Old Dominion University.
Lauren Grace MacVaugh-Howe '27 also represented Cathedral in the championship fleet, gaining valuable experience early in the long sailing season.
Meanwhile, several Dons competed in the SDAYC Luff-In Series Regatta at Mission Bay Yacht Club, racing through six competitive heats against top high school and yacht club teams this past weekend.
Konrad Ashbaugh '28 and
Hudson Ross '29 led the way with an impressive 5th-place finish out of 26 boats, while
Ethan Bradford '28 and
Braeden Williams '29 also turned in strong performances throughout the weekend.
With strong performances across multiple events and impressive showings from both returning and new sailors, it's been an excellent start to the season for Cathedral Catholic Sailing. The Dons are setting the tone for what looks to be a promising year on the water.
