After a narrow 4-3 loss to the Combined San Diego Inline North team last week, the Cathedral Catholic Dons Inline Hockey team bounced back in style, securing an impressive 11-5 victory against Westview on Wednesday night at Kit Carson Park in Escondido. The win brings the Dons' season record to a solid 4-2.
Junior forward
Vigo Garcia led the offensive charge, netting an impressive hat trick to propel the Dons' attack. He wasn't alone — fellow juniors Nate Clark and
Brady Nelson each contributed two goals, while freshman
Kellan Morneau also added a pair. The balanced scoring effort kept Westview on their heels throughout the night.
Between the pipes, sophomore goaltender
Jackson Mann delivered a standout performance. Mann's critical saves in the closing moments of the first period preserved the Dons' narrow 3-2 lead after Westview mounted a comeback. Cathedral Catholic had jumped to an early 3-0 advantage, but Westview responded with two quick goals, threatening to shift the momentum. Mann's clutch stops kept the Dons ahead and set the stage for a dominant second and third period.
The Dons regained control in the second period, rebuilding a three-goal lead before pulling away for good in the final frame.
Next up, Cathedral Catholic faces Del Norte on Wednesday, March 26, at 8:15 p.m. at Kit Carson Park, where they'll look to continue their winning ways and push their season record to 5-2.
