The Cathedral Catholic Boys Golf team made a bold statement in the desert this past week, earning a 2nd place finish at the prestigious Champions Invitational in Palm Springs.
Representing the Dons were
Michael Riebe,
Trevor Cox,
Brady Neal, and
Frank (Weiqiao) Zhang, who delivered an outstanding performance against some of the top high school golf programs in California. While most teams had the advantage of fielding five players and counting only the top four scores, the Dons competed with just four golfers after
Yunze Wang was forced to withdraw due to illness—meaning every shot counted.
Undeterred by the challenge, the Dons shattered the 54-hole tournament scoring record by 10 strokes, finishing just behind perennial powerhouse Palm Desert with an impressive 11-under par. Individually,
Trevor Cox and
Brady Neal led the way, each finishing tied for 11th overall at 4-under, in a highly competitive field of over 250 golfers.
