The Cathedral Catholic Roller Hockey team started its season with a thrilling 8-6 victory over Westview on Wednesday night at Kit Carson Park in Escondido. In a game full of challenges, including both teams playing without their usual goaltenders, the Dons showcased resilience, teamwork, and historic moments.
With Cathedral's starting goalie unavailable, sophomore
Luke Ring stepped up in a big way, volunteering to play in net for the first time in his career. Ring delivered an impressive performance, making key saves to help secure the win.
Offensively, the Dons spread the scoring around, but one of the night's biggest storylines was history in the making—for the first time in program history, a brother-sister duo played together in a Dons Roller Hockey game. Junior
Madeline Brown, who made history last season as the program's first female skater, teamed up with her freshman brother,
David Brown, on the same forward line. Both siblings found the back of the net, adding to an already exciting night for the Dons.
Other standout performances included
Kellan Morneau and
Matthew Cavanaugh, who each contributed key plays on both ends of the rink to help propel the Dons to victory.
Next up, Cathedral Catholic faces a tough challenge as they take on the defending CIF champion Del Norte Nighthawks on Wednesday, February 5th at 6:00 PM. The Dons will look to build on their momentum and continue their strong start to the season.
