Girls Basketball Game Recap | Friday, December 5
Cathedral Catholic 59, Torrey Pines 43
Cathedral Catholic girls basketball fought through traffic, a packed gym, and a loud opposing crowd on Friday night at Torrey Pines and still came out with a statement win. In the front half of a 6 p.m. doubleheader with the boys, the Dons set the tone early and never looked back, securing a 59-43 road victory and helping complete the sweep on the night.
The Dons came out on a mission, jumping to a 24-9 lead after the first quarter and maintaining a 35–19 advantage at halftime. Unselfish play and relentless defense fueled the run, as Cathedral Catholic tallied 20 steals, grabbed 9 offensive rebounds, and assisted on 21 of its 23 made baskets. The Dons also shot 42% from three, scored 16 points in transition, and scored 20 points off turnovers, turning defense into offense all night long.
The win moves Cathedral Catholic to 3-2 on the season and marks the team's first winning streak of the year after Tuesday's victory over Montgomery.
