The Cathedral Catholic cross country teams closed out their 2024 season on the biggest stage, competing at the CIF State Championships on Saturday, November 30, at Woodward Park in Fresno. Both the women's and men's squads showcased resilience, depth, and elite performances in a highly competitive Division III field.
Women's Team – 4th Place Finish
The Dons once again proved they belong among California's best by finishing fourth as a team with 165 points. Leading the way was
Jocelyn Gibson '25, who continued her outstanding senior season with a sixth-place overall finish in 17:40.0, one of the fastest times of the day in Division III.
Behind her,
Liesel Sellerberg '26 (32nd, 18:38.4) and
Calliandra Schulteis '27 (38th, 18:43.7) worked well together to earn important points. The team's depth was evident with
Patricia Hellmann '26 (81st, 19:26.1),
Chiara Bonomi '25 (94th, 19:40.6),
Natalia Velayudhan '25 (100th, 19:45.7), and
Kristine Bickler '27 (117th, 20:10.2) rounding out the scoring.
This performance capped a season that showcased both experienced leadership and promising young talent, positioning the Cathedral program as one to watch heading into 2025.
Men's Team – 15th Place Finish
On the men's side, Cathedral Catholic finished 15th as a team with 383 points in a highly competitive race.
Nathan Wilber '26 led the team with a 22nd-place finish in 15:40.4, closely followed by
Teddy Lang '26 in 37th (15:49.5).
The Dons showed strong depth across their roster with
Aiden Angeles '27 (125th, 16:37.4),
Makai Labayen '26 (135th, 16:43.9),
Andrew Martinez '26 (161st, 17:02.9),
Spencer Todd '26 (166th, 17:09.0), and
Zachary Albers '27 (169th, 17:09.6), all contributing to the lineup.
With a young core and two juniors already breaking into the top 40 in the state, the future looks bright for the Dons.
Both Cathedral Catholic teams left Fresno with impressive results and a spirit that has become a hallmark of the program.
