Girls Tennis Recap: Dons Defeat Point Loma 14-4

The Cathedral Catholic girls' tennis team delivered another strong performance on Tuesday, earning a 14-4 victory over Point Loma. Despite the impressive overall score, the match featured several closely contested battles that demonstrated the team's determination and growth since their last encounter.
In singles play, Jenna Yablonicky set the tone early by decisively defeating Point Loma's top player—an opponent she narrowly beat 7-5 earlier in the season. Scarlett Lee demonstrated her resilience, rallying from a 2-5 deficit to secure an important comeback win. Celine Karyodisa remained steady throughout her matches, earning two solid victories to complete the singles lineup.
In doubles, Cathedral's teams were in top form. The duo of Aubrey Yonemitsu and Samantha Rich swept all three of their matches convincingly, while Madeline Grace Gazzo and Maria Gurchumelidze stepped up in a crucial moment, winning a key tiebreaker against Point Loma's top doubles team. Marisa Eiguren and Peyton Suiter also contributed two strong wins to solidify the Dons' commanding team victory.
With this win, the Dons improve to a 14-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 in league play. The team quickly prepares for their next match against rival OLP, scheduled for Thursday, October 9th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Jane Johnson Tennis Center.
