Cathedral Catholic gained early control, powered by a dominant first round in doubles and a decisive win at singles. At #2 singles,
Jenna Yablonicky '26 delivered a standout performance, defeating Bishop's top two singles players 6–2, 6–3 with a combination of power and tactical precision.
The doubles teams were equally important. Freshman-senior pair
Peyton Suiter '29 and
Maria Gurchumelidze '26 secured a 6–4 victory at #2 doubles, while the sophomore duo of
Samantha Rich '28 and
Sophia Miyamoto '28 defeated Bishop's #1 and #3 lines 6–4, 6–2. Juniors
Madeline Grace Gazzo '27 and
Alanis Huang '27 finished a perfect day, going 3–0 with straight-set wins (6–2, 6–2, 6–2).
Building on that early momentum, the Dons took a 5–1 lead after the first round and extended it to 9–3 after the second round, putting the match clearly in their control before both teams rotated lineups in the final round.
The Lady Dons will aim to continue this strong start when they host Orange County's JSerra HS this Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Jane Johnson Tennis Center.
