Cathedral Catholic made its fourth trip to the Head of the Charles Regatta—the largest rowing competition in the world—celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The team sent 14 athletes (eight girls and six boys) to Boston, ready to compete against top national and international crews on the challenging 4,762-meter course on the Charles River.
Despite windy practice conditions, the Dons crews made the most of their opportunity, racing in four entries across two categories: the Youth Double and the Youth Four, for both boys and girls.
Doubles Debut
This year marked the first time Cathedral Catholic competed in the doubles category, featuring:
Both boats handled the complex Charles course with precision and intensity, holding their positions and even overtaking competitors mid-race—setting a new standard for future Cathedral doubles crews.
Girls Youth Four
The Girls Varsity 4+—coxswain Julia Habas with Ysabel Brenner, Julia Lopez, Julia Byrnes, and Abigail Cena—achieved the strongest result in program history at the event. The crew moved up 15 places from their starting position and cut nearly two minutes and 47 seconds from their previous best time, finishing in 20:03.
Their performance not only marks the fastest result ever recorded by a Cathedral girls crew at the Charles but also positions next year's team well to make "the cut"—the top 50% that automatically qualify for the following year's regatta.
Boys Youth Four
The Boys Varsity 4+—coxswain Angelina Repetti with Tyler MacRae, Nick Roberts, Enzo Bernardo, and Eugenio Espinoza—faced adversity from the start, with one rower recovering from illness during travel. Despite this setback, the crew showed determination and unity, delivering their best performance of the season and setting a strong foundation for upcoming races, including the Head of the Marina in two weeks.
An Unforgettable Experience
From the challenging course to the roaring crowds, the Head of the Charles remains a one-of-a-kind experience. As one rower put it, "This is the most fun I've ever had in a regatta."
The team's growth and success reflect Cathedral Catholic's continued rise in the rowing world. As the Dons look ahead to the rest of the fall season, they do so with momentum, pride, and a commitment to climbing even higher in the national ranks.
