The Cathedral Catholic boys and girls crew teams wrapped up their 2024 – 2025 season with a memorable and successful trip to New Jersey for the 90th annual Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championships on May 23rd and 24th. From fast finishes to team bonding and unforgettable moments, the weekend marked a high note to end the spring season.
Boys' Team Recap:
The boys team put together a strong showing on the Cooper River, with both the Varsity 4+ and Freshman 4x crews performing at a high level. The Varsity 4+ posted the fastest time by a Dons boat at SRAA Nationals since 2019, capping off their season with a performance to be proud of. The Freshman 4x also impressed, finishing in the top ten in the country—a tremendous accomplishment for a young crew with a bright future ahead.
Off the water, the boys took the opportunity to explore the historic city of Philadelphia, including a visit to Boathouse Row and the oldest boathouse in the United States. The trip was a rewarding way to end the year and a meaningful farewell for this year's seniors, whose dedication and leadership have helped shape the team over the last four seasons.
Girls' Team Recap:
The girls team also delivered an impressive performance, bringing a program-record 19 athletes to the national championships. Gaby Serena '25 represented Cathedral in the Varsity 1x and advanced to the semifinals with a strong solo effort. The Freshman 4x reached the finals, showcasing the depth and talent of the next generation of rowers.
Beyond competition, the weekend was filled with team bonding and shared experiences. Whether exploring the city, walking along the river, or spending time together between races many memories were made throughout. It was a fitting close to a season built on growth and team.
A special congratulations goes out to senior captain and four-year MVP Gaby Serena, who led the girls team throughout her career. We thank her for all she has given to the program and wish her the very best as she continues her rowing journey at UC Davis.

From historic performances on the water to unforgettable moments off it, the Dons made the most of their time at SRAA Nationals. Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and families for their hard work and support throughout the season.
